When my father was diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, opting for surgical repair, our family was not prepared to face what came next. Having suffered multiple strokes, my father required assistance with nearly everything; our family struggled to offer our very best support, but it was not without difficulty. Dignity and trying to care for someone’s every need, is not easy to balance.

My father wanted what most people want, to live his remaining years without burdening anyone, to enjoy his family, and to have some independence.
